Our Vision and Values

At the heart of our vision is a commitment to the 'Great Commandment' (to love God passionately) and a commitment to the 'Great Commission' (to go and make disciples).

The way we live our lives and our obedience to Him will show how much we really love God.

So although we love to come and celebrate the love and goodness of God, we also know part

of our worship is to make His love known to others, especially the people of Reading.  In this respect the strategy to 'WIN, CONSOLIDATE, DISCIPLE, SEND' is central to our vision.

As a church we have big dreams which include:-

  • Dreaming of impacting Reading with the gospel.
  • Dreaming of planting many cells across Reading and beyond.
  • Dreaming of being a church motivated by God's love to go and make disciples.
  • Dreaming of living at a higher level of faith and the miraculous.
  • Dreaming of multitudes.

But our vision is even more than that, because church is more that that!  Out of our love for God and for the people of the world we also want to simply be 'good news' to those around.  Yes, we want all to hear the gospel, but also we want to be 'good news' to the poor, to our local communities and abroad, to youth and children, and together with other churches and Christian groups, we want to be 'good news' to the town of Reading.

We have a big vision because we serve a big God!

Listed below are a number of values and distinctives which we feel make LifeSpring the church we are.

  1. The grace of God - Ephesians 2 v8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast."
The grace of God is amazing. So underserved. Through faith we are saved - not works. He takes our sin and gives us his righteousness. There is now no condemnation for those of us who are in Christ Jesus. "Amazing grace - how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me"
  2. Freedom - Galatians 5 v 1 "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yoursleves be burderned again by a yoke of slavery"
We highly value the freedom we receive in Jesus. Free from the law and free from rules and religion. It's not about special clothes or special days. Its all about a relationship with God. We are free to enjoy all the good things God has given us and we have a gospel of freedom to share with others.
  3. Worship and Celebration - Psalm 95 v 1-3 "Come, let us sing for the joy to the Lord, Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. For the Lord is the great God, the great king above all Gods"
God is good! God is love! God is great! He deserves our wholehearted worship and praise from us his people. We value highly corporate praise and worship. There is no one like him, Let's give him our best.
  4. A culture of honour - Romans 13 v 7 "Give to everyone what you owe them: if you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honour, then honour.
We live in a culture where honour has been devalued. But we highly value honour. We seek to honour everyone, especially those "over" us such as employers, parents, school teachers, government and church leaders. And where is honour is evident, there is freedom and life too!
  5. Relationship with God/Intimacy - John 17 v 21 "I pray, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me"
We value our relationship and intimacy with God very highly. Jesus prays that we will be one - he in us and us in him. As we spend time with God loving him, speaking to him, listening to him, as well as reading the bible, our relationship with him will grow.
  6. Family - Ephesians 5 v 21 - 6 v 2 - "Wives, submuit yourselves to your own husbands as you do to the Lord... Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ  loved the church... Children, obey your parents... "Honour your Father and Mother"
In a time of much family breakdown, we highly value marriage and family. We want to encourage and support all families to be as great as they can be also recognising that not all families are in the same place.
  7. Relationships and Community - Mark 3 v 13 - "Jesus went up on a mountanside and called to him those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach"
Relationships and community are so important. Church is more than meetings, it is people. Jesus had a vision and a a purpose for his disciples. We read he called them to be WITH him before he sent them out to preach. They were his friends, friends with an agenda!!
  8. Mission - Matthew 5 v 14 - 16 "You are the light of the world... let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven"
Matthew 28 v 18 - 19 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authorty in Heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go..."
Going and sharing the gospel is at the heart of the Great Commission. We must go! We must reach out. We must tell others. We are also called to be good news and when others see our good deeds, God will receive all the glory. We value highly mission - It is why we are here!
  9. Discipleship - Matthew 28 v 19 - 20  "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Sprit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you"
The second aprt of the great commission is to make disciples. We value discipleship - being discipled and discipling others. Discipleship is challenging but essential if we are to mature and fulfil God's call on our lives. It's about training and mentoring. Its about investing in the next generation.
  10. Holiness - 1 Peter 1 v 15 "But just as he who called you is Holy, so be Holy in all you do"
Holiness is a lifestyle. It is an inner value of choosing to live for the Lord. It is separating ourselves from the values of the world. It is an expression of our love and worshhip. We are holy and we are being made holy! Holiness is a high calling.
  11. Holy Spirit - Ephesians 5 v 18 "Be filled with the spirit"
We must have His fire, His passion and his spirit if we are to succeed in our calling. We value highly the annointing and work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. His touch brings the supernatural. Without the Holy Spirit we can do nothing. Our hearts cry must be "more Lord"
  12. The Word of God - Matthew 4 v 4 "Jesus answered, it is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God"
The word of God is powerful. The word of God feeds and directs. There is power in God's word. We value it highly, we seek to be doers of his written word as well as his prophetic word.
